Publication & Exhibition: "Off to Elsewhere" Münchner Kammerspiele, Munich (2024/25)

Berk Kır's work was selected for "Off to Elsewhere," a multi-layered visual project for the 2024/25 season of the Münchner Kammerspiele. Curated by Çağla İlk (Artistic Director of Maxim Gorki Theater and curator of the German Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale), the project was launched following an international open call that drew over 1,000 submissions from 82 countries.

While the selected works were staged as a large-scale, city-wide image campaign and site-specific exhibition throughout Munich, this specific poster publication was produced as a curated extension of the project. Designed to elevate the photographic surface into a collectible format, the publication features Berk's work in a high-quality, fold-out poster edition (420 x 594 mm).

The publication serves as a permanent record of the artistic dialogue between contemporary photography and theater, treated as shared "projection spaces." It includes an analytical essay by Caroline von Courten and an editorial by Daniel Veldhoen, Artistic Director of Münchner Kammerspiele, further anchoring Berk's practice within a prestigious European institutional context.

Semiramis, 2025

Bringing together three figures from different generations and disciplines, Mahmut Anlar, Berk Kır, and Semiramis Pekkan, this collaboration unfolds as a layered encounter shaped by time, perception, and shared sensibility.

In his portraits of Semiramis Pekkan, Kır resists the clarity of iconic representation, instead approaching the subject through a melancholic and contemplative gaze. The images linger in moments of pause and interiority, where silence becomes a form of expression and presence is defined as much by withdrawal as by visibility.

The work situates itself within a dialogue across generations, where distinct practices and lived experiences intersect. Through this exchange, the series reflects on the persistence of image, the fragility of identity, and the subtle emotional textures that emerge in the space between artist, subject, and viewer.

Art Unlimited Covers, 2021 – Ongoing

Since 2021, Berk Kır has been creating magazine covers for Art Unlimited, an Istanbul-based cultural and art publication. Each bimonthly issue becomes a conceptual ground where he develops a visual dialogue that resonates with the featured artist’s practice, contributing to an ongoing printed archive of contemporary art.

In this process, he is responsible not only for photographing the covers but also for constructing the scenes themselves, shaping their composition, atmosphere, and visual language. Working across image making and artistic direction, Kır positions each cover as a carefully staged encounter rather than a mere representation.
